The Trafalgar Project

A while back, I decided that I needed to come up with a theme to organize my fleets.  Since the most famous Age of Sail battle is Trafalgar, and my French and British fleets are the largest ones I have, it seemed to be the most obvious benchmark to use.  Now, that doesn't mean that I only purchase items that directly apply to Trafalgar; anyone who's been following this blog can tell that.  What it does mean is that I want to get my British, French and Spanish fleets in a condition so that one day, I can put on the battle of Trafalgar, with every ship represented.

Fortunately for me and any other gamers with the same obsession, Rod Langton has a list on his website of all the ships at the battle, along with which of his model hulls and sail sets are required (http://rodlangton.com/napoleonic/traflgr.htm). I don't normally use the sail setting advice, as I prefer most of my ships to be at battle sail or something close to it, and all of the British ships are all listed as Easy Sail or higher.

I've kept a copy of this list on my computer, and have updated it as I've finished the various ships I need.  However, by keeping on this blog, I'm hoping that I can remember to update it more regularly, rather than keeping it hidden away on the hard drive. The notations under the "Number of Guns" column are 74C=74 common class, 74M=74 Middling and 74L=a 74 Large.  "Fr" indicates a French prize.  In a perfect world it would be a French 74 hull with British running rigging, but I will probably use the standard French rigging scheme as that doesn't limit my use of the ships.

The French fleet has 2 British 74s in it, and these will probably done just like the French prizes in the British fleet list.  That is, British hulls with British rigging schemes.  The Spanish ship is rigged just like the French ones are, so that is not a big deal.
